At General Steel LLC, we don’t just build with steel, we build with purpose. Based in Virginia, we specialize in structural steel installation, reinforcement, and custom fabrication for projects that demand strength, accuracy, and accountability.
Our standard is simple: do it right the first time. Our team brings years of hands-on experience, and we take pride in clean welds, solid installs, and structural work that’s built to last. No shortcuts. No excuses. No guesswork.
Whether you're tackling a major structural scope, upgrading a commercial space, or needing custom steel solutions, we treat every project with the same intensity, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
When you work with General Steel, you’re not just hiring a contractor, you’re partnering with a team that shows up, communicates clearly, and delivers results you can trust.
General Steel LLC was built from the ground up by Jose Portillo. A welder who picked up a torch at just 13 years old and never looked back. What started as a skill quickly became a passion, and that passion grew into a vision: to create a company that would stand strong for him, his children, and the generations after them.
Jose has spent years in the field, welding, fabricating, and grinding through long days and tough jobs to master his craft. He’s put in the work, paid his dues, and earned his reputation through real experience, not shortcuts.
General Steel exists because of that dedication. It’s more than a business; it’s a legacy built on hard work, integrity, and the belief that every project should be done with pride.
To deliver structural steel, welding, and fabrication work with integrity, precision, and pride. We are often handed a problem, and we always find the solution. No shortcuts. No gimmicks. Just honest craftsmanship and work built to last.
We’re a small but mighty team of welders, fabricators, and problem-solvers based in Virginia. We’re proud of our roots, and we believe in treating every project, big or small, with the same level of care and respect. Whether it’s a structural job for a commercial contractor or a custom railing for a homeowner, we bring our A-game every time.
